E-Safety at CSCAN

University of Plymouth

E-Safety is just one aspect of the strands of research being carried out as part of the Centre for Security, Communications and Network Research (CSCAN)

E-Safety research comprises the following:

Peer Education and E-Safety South West Grid for Learning Evaluation of KIA Resources PSCB - E-safety group

Peer Education and E-Safety formed part of a one year research project funded by Becta from 2008 to 2009.

Eight schools in the Plymouth and South Devon area took part and encouraged some of their year 10 pupils to embark upon e-safety training with the University and from their take a supportive role within the school in regard to spreading the e-safety message.

We work very closely with the South West Grid for Learning. We have contributed to the 360 degree safe tool used by Schools and are engaged in bringing this to the reach of voluntary groups and organisations to review their own e-safety provision.

Current research also includes the Community Research Award from the University where we are exploring various aspects of e-safety not only in schools but from the parental engagement perspective and voluntary groups.

A collaborative project with Kingston University is looking at how trainee teachers can make use of the KIA resources.

We support the work of the Plymouth E-Safety LSCB group. Current research involves exploring the use of technology for eary years settings.
